"The First Addiction"

Years ago, when we were babies one of the first things we remember seeing was our Mom and Dad smoking cigarettes. Fortunately my Mom didn't smoke but my Dad did. I was little but I remember the smoke, the smell and those dirty ashtrays.. It will be, most likely your first addiction because if Mom or Dad did it, it was OK for you to do it. The drinking alcohol came later when you noticed that blue stuff in that neat glass with the tall stem.. They said a glass of wine with dinner was something that everybody did. You didn't know they called it a stem then but it must be cool because if, well you know the drill by now..     Our Country and its free enterprise system has many pitfalls.. The problem now and has been for a long time is that Money is the most important thing along with being able to live comfortably. However now greed has blended in and more or less taken over and its become a very sick process. Now people think that being happy is about having rooms filled with money and if you become unhappy for any reason these days, you are programed to drink to feel better, drink to celebrate and drink when you feel sad. When that doesn't work good enough you, you take that anti-depressant along with the drinking… Sooner or later that so called friend of a friend introduces you to, lets call it illegal drugs and we know what happens from there. You try it…  Here is where you make the biggest mistake in your life because you think addiction can't happen to you. The process has begun. It is the beginning of the end..

                                                                      Part 2

With all these drug overdoses and drinking sicknesses and yes if you drink alcohol and use drugs you get sick quicker because your natural resistance to diseases is broken down. Did you know that if you didn't smoke, drink or use drugs these days they call it being, "clean and sober". Did you even know being sick is usually related to the excessive drinking of alcohol. Do you know what its like not to smoke, use drugs or drink alcohol? Do you know how you feel when you don't smoke, drink or use drugs? Do you know what its like when you are healthy enough not to need pharmaceuticals to be well and happy most of the time?  Do you know what its like not crave anything but food because you are hungry… I do.. And I can safely say, stay tuned and God bless...

"Overdose"

"Show me a hero, and I'll write you a tragedy." - F. Scott Fitzgerald

On April 23, 1925 F. Scott Fitzgerald met Ernest Hemingway for the first time at the Dingo Bar in Paris. While the two writers initially hit it off, their friendship soon dissolved into bitter rivalry.

Comment ............. What is very disappointing to me are the writers, young performers and singers who die from drinking or drug overdoses. F. Scott Fitzgerald (The Great Gatsby) drank himself to death because he could not stop drinking. Earnest Hemingway put a shotgun in his mouth and pulled the trigger because he could not stop drinking.. Michael Jackson hired a doctor to shoot him up with drugs. The Doctor overdose him… How's that working out for you Michael? There will never be another singer like Whitney Huston who died of drowning in her bathtub because drug addiction. So did her daughter. Amy Winehouse drank herself to death. Elvis Presley died of a drug overdose.… How many more will die in 2016.. The waste is horrendous. I cry for these kids. All these gifted people are gone because of addiction. ..

Here are a few more names. You may recognize some of them..

Marilyn Monroe – Her death, due to an overdose of sleeping pills, was ruled as a “possible” suicide.

Christopher Pettiet – You know him as Zach, the budding chef in “Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead.” He died of an accidental overdose in 2000.
Mary Anissa Jones – Better known as Buffy from “Family Affair.” Drugs found in her system at the time of her death include Seconal, PCP, methaqualone and cocaine.
Lani O’Grady – You remember her as the brainy and practical Mary on “Eight is Enough,” Lani died in 2001 at the age of 46 of “drug intoxication.” Found in her system at the time of her death were Vicodin and Prozac.
Chris Farley – Overdosed in 1997 after taking a speed ball.

"Never Cry Wolf"

The other day I sent a text message to what I thought was good friend that I haven't seen or heard from in a long time. This is the response I got a few minutes later.....The message said and I kid you not....Joan (not her real name) has died of a drug overdose....Needless to say when I read that I was in shock....I immediately called her cell phone and after twenty rings she answered...I recognized her voice and I said, "What are you doing"? "Why are you doing this"? Why would you say something like that? She replied, "Hi who is this? This is Joan's sister, Joan has died". I said, raising my voice this time, "No, this is not Joan's sister, its you, why are doing this"??.. You would be surprise of the different emotions that happen to you when something like this happens. Wait a minute I thought, I was confused.... it could be her sister. I thought I recognized her voice but what if it wasn't? I couldn't think of anything to say and I was angry. I didn't know whether to believe her or not. I didn't want to believe it but what if?......It sounded like her but the voice on the phone said it wasn't her. The voice said we are going through a bad time here who is this?...Still in shock and not believing her I hung up....I refused to believe her...I did think about it and after a while I said to myself it could be, what if, I thought and then I accepted it and I did believe who I thought was Joan's sister...I knew she had a sister, we had met at a 4th of July picnic a few years ago...Yet, I knew this woman was capable of a lot of things but faking her death is a whole other thing...I suppose there is a first time for everything...My first emotion was to not believe it. Then I thought what if? Then sadness...By then it was 11:30 and I called the number again. It went into voice mail and I hung up and went to bed and tried to sleep. It wasn't easy but I finally fell asleep. The next morning I thought, wait a minute there is something fishy going on here...Who would send a text message to announce someones death? It isn't likely that anyone would do that but wait just a minute...I called her number again later that morning and she answered. At first she denied it but after a while admitted it was her...I know it sounds like the classic cry for help...No diagnoses here or explanations. Later I called a friend of hers and suggested she keep an eye on her...I was angry but I was reminded of the story my Dad told me many years ago about "The Boy Who Cried Wolf".....
