Mayor cuts alcohol sales after violence - WFSB Channel 3
EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (CNN/KSDK) – Businesses that normally sell alcohol until six in the morning in East St. Louis will now have to stop selling five hours earlier. The change affecting businesses comes after a man was killed during 48 hours of violence in the city.
East St. Louis Mayor Alvin Parks Jr. decided to take a tough stance against the violence that happened outside two of his cities nightclubs.
Effectively immediately the city is suspending all non-casino sales of liquor after 1 a.m. until further notice. "It could be three days. It could be three weeks. Worst case scenario it could be three months," said Parks Jr. The mayor admits he's taken some heat and been getting lots of phone calls from business owners upset about his move but he said at least for now it's the right thing to do.
The mayor's drastic action came two days after shots were fired just outside Club Flava Friday night.
Comment............Could someone please pass this along to our Greedy Governor of Connecticut?
